The State Department of Education and Early Development is accepting requests for its Alaska Community Learning Center Program.  The purpose of the program is to provide competitive grants to organizations that are working in partnership within their community and schools to provide expanded learning and enrichment opportunities for children and adults outside of the regular school hours.  Approximately 4 to 8 grants of between $125,000 to $500,000 each will be available to organizations, school districts, or other public or private agencies.  The deadline is March 12.  For more information, contact Cynthia LaVigne at 907-465-2304 or visit www.eed.state.ak.us.

 

The Denali Commission is committed to accelerating the building of sustainable infrastructure in rural Alaska to enhance the health and safety of rural residents.  A revised Draft Investment Policy will be posed on their website in mid-February for further public review and comment.  The deadline for written comments is March 31.  For more information, contact Yuri Morgan at 907-271-2372 or visit www.denali.gov.

 

The Federal Government has a new website that provides information about how to find and apply to federal grant programs.  The site includes information on  more than 800 grant programs run by 26 federal grant-making agencies that together award more than $360 billion annually to charities, universities, state and local government agencies, and other organizations.  To learn more about the grant programs, visit www.grants.gov.

 

The Archstone Foundation is accepting nominations for its 2004 Award for Excellence in Program Innovation.  The award aims to identify best practice models in the field of aging and health.  The deadline is April 2.  For more information, contact Allan Goldman at 404-657-5254 or visit www.archstone.org.

The Foundation Center’s Guide to Winning Proposals, contains 20 grant proposals that succeeded in getting support from foundations or companies.  These collection of proposals sought support for a variety of programs and services, including capital projects, endowments, operating support, and special projects.  The program officer who awarded the grant introduces each proposal by highlighting its strengths.  The book also includes several sample budgets and letters of inquiry.  The cost is $34.95.  For more information, call 800-424-9836 or visit http://fdncenter.org/marketplace

 

The Traumatic Brain Injury – The New Frontier Conference will be held March 7-9 at the Anchorage Hilton Hotel.  The goal of the conference is to assist survivors of traumatic brain injuries and their families and to provide baseline training for service providers.  For more information, contact Sharon Walluk at 907-269-3619 or email her at Sharon_walluk@health.state.ak.us.

The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; or Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend

half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on high quality rural projects.
