The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for its Drug Free Communities Support Program.  The goal of the program is to support community-based coalitions that agree to work together toward a common goal of building a safe and healthy drug-free community.  Approximately $70 million will be available for about 700 awards.  The maximum award is $100,000 per year for both direct and indirect costs.  The deadline is March 11 for new applicants and April 5 for renewing applicants.  For more information, contact Mike Lowther at 240-276-2570 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

The NEC Foundation of America is accepting proposals to help nonprofit organizations develop and use technology that is created by or helps people with disabilities.  Proposals must demonstrate both national reach and impact.  The deadline is March 1.  For more information, call 631-232-2212 or visit www.necfoundation.org.

The Nonprofit Board Member’s Guide to Lobbying and Advocacy provides recommendations for board members seeking to increase their nonprofit groups’ impact on policy decisions.  It discusses ways to incorporate advocacy efforts into an organization’s operations, and on raising money and building relationships to effectively lobby government at all levels.  The appendix includes lobbying tips, a description of the 1976 lobby law and the restrictions it places on nonprofit lobbying efforts, and a list of related resources.  The cost is $34.95  For more information, call 800-274-6024 or visit https://www.wilderpubs.org/productdetails.cfm?SKU=069393.

The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; or Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend one half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on projects that serve beneficiaries in rural areas.
