Welcome to this List Serv sponsored by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Rural Funding Coordination Project.  These messages provide information about current government and private grants, conference and training opportunities, publications, and potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural Alaska.

 

The Department of Health and Social Services is soliciting Physician (Locum Tenens) Provider Agreements for Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API).  Providers will be responsible for providing clinically acceptable psychiatric services.  A detailed list of those services is included in the provider agreement.  There is no deadline.  For more information, contact Judy Skagerberg at 907-465-8507 or visit www.hss.state.ak.us.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting proposals for its Active-Living Research Grant Program.  Grants of up to $150,000 over two years or less are available for research that identifies environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity, specifically in understudied populations, such as children and adolescents, low-income and ethnic-minority groups, older adults, physically challenged individuals, and residents of rural areas.  The deadline is September 1.  For more information, call 619-260-5534 or visit http://www.activelivingresearch.org.

 

VSA Arts and Volkswagen of America is accepting entries from promising artists with disabilities who are age 16 to 25.  This year’s theme is “driving force” and entries should reflect the artist’s conception of what motivates and inspires creativity.  The deadline is August 6.  For more information, call 800-933-8721 or visit www.vsaarts.org.

 

The JEHT Foundation provides grants to organizations that focus on human rights, social justice and community building.  Within these areas, they are interested in activities that provide effective practices that inform policy choices, public education and advocacy, effective use of media, research with a direct policy application, and community organizing and development.  The Foundation will make a combination of multi-year and one-time grants.  They provide general operating support, project support, capacity building, and special needs and opportunities within the focus areas.  There is no deadline.  For more information, call 212-965-0400 or visit www.jehtfoundation.org.

The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; or Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend

half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on high quality rural projects.
