Welcome to this List Serv sponsored by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Rural Funding Coordination Project.  These messages provide information about current government and private grants, conference and training opportunities, publications, and potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural Alaska.

 

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development is accepting applications for its Workforce Investment Strategy initiative.  The intent of the program is to promote high quality training to prepare Alaskans for high demand and good wage jobs.  The program targets specific jobs in the health care sector.  The deadline is March 31.  For more information, contact Karen Backlund at 907-269-3745 or visit www.labor.state.ak.us.

 

 The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is accepting applications for its Access to Recovery Grants.  The goal is to implement voucher programs for substance abuse clinical treatment and recovery support services.  This new program expands access to a comprehensive array of clinical treatment and recovery support options (including faith-based), and increases substance abuse treatment capacity.  The deadline is June 4.  For more information, call 800-729-6686 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting letters of intent to apply for its Investigator Awards in Health Policy Research.  The program supports studies of challenging health, health-care, and health-policy issues in the United States.  Grants of up to $275,000 will be awarded to investigators from various disciplines, including medicine and public health.  Successful proposals should pursue innovative solutions to critical health problems and policy issues.  The deadline is April 1.  For more information, contact Lynn Rogut at 732-932-3817 or visit www.rwjf.org.

 

The Altria Group is accepting proposals for its Community Coalitions.  The goal of the program is to build coalitions among anti-hunger organizations in an effort to develop innovative approaches to creating long-term, collaborative solutions to alleviate hunger among the homebound elderly and/or people living with critical illnesses. The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; or Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend

half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on high quality rural projects.
