The State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is soliciting applications for the Capital Grant Programs for Transportation Services.  Approximately $900,000 is available ($300,000 from each entity) from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Coordinated Transportation Program, the Alaska Mobility Coalition’s FTA Section 5309 Capital Program, and the Section 3037 Jobs Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) Program.  Each program has specific eligibility requirements.  The deadline is May 30.  For more information, contact Bruce Wells at 888-752-6368 or email him at bruce_wells@dot.state.ak.us or visit www.dot.state.ak.us.

 

The State Department of Health and Social Services is requesting applications for its Consumer Designed and Managed Projects Capital Grant Program.  The goal is to fund capital projects that are operated and managed by individuals experiencing mental illness, and that provide services to consumers.  Approximately $358,000 is available.  The deadline is June 25.  For more information, contact Jennifer Klein at 907-465-1871 or visit www.hss.state.ak.us.

 

The State Division of Behavioral Health is soliciting letters of interest for its Mental Health Trust Beneficiary Mini-Grants Program.  The program is designed for mental health beneficiaries who are seriously mentally ill and SED youth or chronic alcoholics with psychosis.  Approximately $703,400 is available.  The maximum amount that can be applied for by each individual is $3,500.  The deadline is May 21.  For more information, contact  Elizabeth Clement at 907-465-5424 or visit www.hss.state.ak.us.

 

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has several grant opportunities:

 

Recovery Community Services Program – To implement voucher programs for substance abuse clinical treatment and recovery support services.  The deadline is May 18.  For more information, contact Catherine Nugent at 301-443-2662.

 

Targeted Capacity Expansion Grants – To expand and strengthen effective, culturally appropriate substance abuse and/or mental health services at the State and local levels.  The deadline is May 25.  For more information, contact Ken Robertson at 301-443-7612.

 

Treatment for the Homeless – To enable communities to expand and strengthen their treatment services for homeless individuals with substance abuse disorders, mental illness, or with co-occurring substance abuse disorders and mental illness.  The deadline is May 28.  For more information, contact Kathleen Sample at 301-443-9667.

The Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation promotes the health development of vulnerable populations and strengthens families and communities in the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska.  The Paul G. The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; or Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend

half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on high quality rural projects.
