Welcome to this List Serv sponsored by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Rural Funding Coordination Project.  These messages provide information about current government and private grants, conference and training opportunities, publications, and potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural Alaska.

 

The State Department of Labor and Workforce Development is accepting applications for the delivery of adult job training services for eligible Alaskan residents.  Approximately $500,000 is available for job training grants that result in good jobs for Alaskans.  The deadline is December 30.  For more information, contact Frank D’Elia at 907-269-4562 or visit www.labor.state.ak.us.

 

The Rasmuson Foundation is accepting applications for its sabbatical program which is designed to provide time away from the office for professional growth and personal renewal for Executive Directors and Chief Executive Officers of health and human service agencies in Alaska.  The foundation will award three to four grants in 2005, each up to $30,000.  To be eligible an organization must be a nonprofit in the health and human services field.  Grants will be used to cover the executive’s salary and expenses during the sabbatical which may run from two to six continuous months.    The deadline is November 15.   For more information, call (907) 297-2700, or toll-free in Alaska (877) 366-2700 or visit www.rasmuson.org.

 

The Alston/Bannerman Fellowship Program is accepting applications for sabbaticals for activists who are members of ethnic minorities.  Ten fellows will each receive $15,000 for a sabbatical lasting at least three months.  The deadline is December 1.  For more information, call 410-327-6220 or visit www.alstonbannerman.org.

 

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting applications for its Health Policy Fellowships which are intended to provide mid-career health professionals with a greater understanding of the health policy process.  Up to 10 fellows will each receive a maximum of $155,000 plus benefits over three years.  The deadline is November 19.  For more information, contact Marie Michnich at 202-334-1506 or visit www.iom.edu/rwj.

 

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting applications for its Active Living Research Grant Program.  One-year grants of up to $60,000 are available for research that identifies environmental factors and policies that influence physical behavior.  The deadline is December 1.  For more information, call 619-260-5534 or visit http://activelivingresearch.org.

 

The Forum on Regulations and Cost Savings will be held on November 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Arc of Anchorage.  The Forum will discuss the impact that the regulation changes have had on the individuals who receive mental health and/or developmental disabilities services and the agencies that fund and provide those services.  There is no charge.  For more information, contact Kathy Allely at 907-269-8995.

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend one-half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on high quality rural projects.
