potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural
Alaska.
The
State Division of Senior and Disabilities Services
is requesting proposals for several different
programs:
Nutrition, Transportation and Support Services
Grants - Provides services to eligible
Seniors throughout the state. The deadline is May
6.
Senior
In-Home Services Grants - Provide care
coordination, respite care, and extended respite
care services to individuals of any age with
Alzheimer's disease or related disorders, and
individuals over 60 who are frail, have physical
disabilities or mental health issues. The deadline
is May 6.
National Family Caregiver Support Grants -
Provides a multifaceted system of caregiver support
that includes information, assistance, individual
counseling, support groups and caregiver training,
respite care, and supplemental services to
complement the care provided by eligible
caregivers. The deadline is May 6.

The
State Office of Children's Services is
requesting proposals for its Differential
Response Services program. The deadline is
April 22. There will be a preproposal
teleconference on April 6 at 1:30 pm. For more

The
State Division of Behavioral Health is
requesting proposals for its Comprehensive
Behavioral Health Prevention and Early
Intervention Services program. The goal is
to provide services related to substance use and
abuse, suicide, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders,
youth development and resiliency, and promotion of
community, family and individual wellness across
Alaska. The grant period is FY 2006 through FY

The
State Division of Public Health is
soliciting letters of interest for its
Abstinence Education Coordination Services
program. The grant period will be for 3 years and
the intent is to fund a single grantee that will
provide services to as many as 6 school districts.

The
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration is accepting applications
for its Support for Analyses in Substance
Abuse program. The purpose of the program
is to expand the number of researchers who conduct
high-quality substance abuse services research, the
study of how various factors affect the need for and
access to substance abuse treatment, and the quality
and cost of substance abuse treatment. Special
emphasis will be placed on racial and ethnic
minority populations, women, children and families,
older adults, low income groups, the homeless, those
in rural settings, and persons with mental
illnesses. Awards are expected to be $20,000 to
$30,000 per year. Applicants may request a project
period of up to 2 years. The deadline is May 1.

The
American Geriatrics Society is accepting
applications for its Geriatrics for
Specialists Initiative. Eight two-year
grants of $32,000 each will awarded to support
projects designed to increase expertise in
geriatrics among surgical and related medical

The
Association for Healthcare Philanthropy is
accepting nominations for its Harold J.
Seymour Award. The award honors leaders in
the association who have promoted exemplary

The
W.K. Kellogg Foundation funds nonprofit
organizations that focus on health, food systems,

Finance for Nonprofit Board Members; Linking Mission
to Money provides trustees with advice for
participating in the financial management of an
organization without becoming overwhelmed. The book
is divided into five sections that discuss planning
and setting priorities, designing a budget that
emphasizes an organization's mission, using board
meetings effectively, sustaining a group's mission
in lean times, and communicating that mission to

beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health
Trust Authority include those Alaskans
experiencing mental illness; developmental
disabilities; chronic alcoholism; Alzheimer's
disease or related disorders. You can learn more

The
Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, Small Projects
Funding program is designed to create new
services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.
These services are not normally funded by another
part of government. They can be innovative, new
program ideas, or substantially improve and
supplement existing activities. They can also
significantly increase the quality of ongoing
projects. Each small project is limited to a
maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend one-half
of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on
projects that serve beneficiaries in rural areas.
The deadlines are February 1, June 1, and October
