The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services is accepting proposals for its Resource Family Training and Support Services program.  Resource Families are those who are relative placements, foster parents, adoptive parents and/or guardianship parents.  The deadline is September 2.  For more information, contact Chris Carson at 907-465-3469 or visit

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is accepting applications for its Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program.  The purpose is to stimulate innovative community-based programs that employ preventive strategies to promote access to health care for children and their families nationwide.  The funding is for direct service projects.  Approximately $450,000 will be available for an estimated nine awards.  The deadline is September 12.  For more information, contact Jose Belardo at 301-443-0757 or visit http://www.hrsa.gov/grants/preview/default.htm.

The National Children's Alliance is seeking applications to establish Children's Advocacy Centers.  The goal is to help prevent child abuse.  One-year grants, ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 will be awarded in the areas of abuse prevention, member-program development, program support, research, and training.  The deadline is September 13.  For more information, call 800-239-9950 or visit www.nca-online.org.

 

The Mary Byron Foundation is accepting nominations for its Celebrating Solutions Awards.  Up to four awards of $10,000 each are available for community-based programs designed to prevent domestic violence.  Preference will be given to programs that can be duplicated successfully.  The deadline is September 16.  For more information, call Marcia Roth at 502-992-3444 or visit www.marybyronfoundation.org.

The John A. Hartford Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations to increase their capacity to provide effective and affordable care to the elderly population.  A focus area for the Foundation is to integrate and improve health-related services.  The Foundation supports a limited number of projects that offer considerable potential for national impact in demonstrating integrated financing and care delivery for comprehensive geriatric services.  There is no deadline.  For more information, contact James O'Sullivan at 212-832-7788 or visit www.jhartfound.org.

The beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority include those Alaskans experiencing mental illness; developmental disabilities; chronic alcoholism; Alzheimer's disease or related disorders.  You can learn more about the Trust at www.mhtrust.org.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority is accepting proposals for its Small Projects Funding program.  The program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government.  They can be innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000.  The intent is to spend one-half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on projects that serve beneficiaries in rural areas.  The deadlines are June 1, October 1, and February 1.  For more information, call 907-269-7960 or visit www.mhtrust.org.
