Welcome to this List Serv sponsored by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Rural Funding Coordination Project.  These messages provide information about current government and private grants, conference and training opportunities, publications, and potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural Alaska.

 

The State of Alaska has several vacancies for Boards and Commissions.  The Aging Commission has a public vacancy; the Community Service Commission has a community-based organization vacancy; Disabilities and Special Education has a consumer (secondary) vacancy; Employment of People with Disabilities has a parent training representative vacancy; the Independent Living Council has an advocate vacancy; Nursing has a public vacancy; the Psychologist/Psychological Association has a public vacancy; and the Suicide Prevention Council has several vacancies.  For more information, call 907-465-3500 or visit www.gov.state.ak.us.

 

The Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for cooperative agreements to support National Consumer and Consumer Supporter Self-Help Technical Assistance Centers.  Approximately $1.8 million is available for 5 awards.  The purpose of these technical assistance centers is to improve State and local level mental health service systems by providing consumers, supporters, service providers, and the general public, with the necessary skills to foster self-help/self-management approaches.  The deadline is August 7.  For more information, contact Risa Fox at 301-443-3653 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

The Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for cooperative agreements to support its National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative: Intervention Development and Evaluation Centers.  Approximately $1.8 million is available for 3 awards.  Funds are available (under Section 582) to local mental health providers for the purpose of developing knowledge of best practices and providing mental health services to children and youth suffering from post-traumatic stress as a result of having experienced or witnessed a traumatic event.  The deadline is August 7.  For more information, contact Malcolm Gordon at 301-443-2957 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

 The Center for Mental Health Services is requesting applications for cooperative agreements to expand its National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative: Community Treatment and Service Centers.  Approximately $4.8 million is available for 12 awards.  The goal of the program is to promote the development and use of effective treatment and services, to develop resources on trauma for professionals, consumers, and the public, and to develop trauma-focused public education and professional training as well as other field development activities.  The deadline is August 7.  For more information, contact Christine Guthrie at 301-443-0691 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

Nominations are being accepted for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s 2004 Charles E. Culpeper Scholarships in Medical Science.  The scholarships support the career development of academic physicians.  All scientific research relevant to human health is eligible for consideration.  The deadline is August 15.  For more information, call 212-812-4200 or visit www.rbf.org.

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority's Small Projects Funding program is designed to create new services of direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.  These services are not normally funded by another part of government. They can be

innovative, new program ideas, or substantially improve and supplement existing activities.  They can also significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000. The intent is to spend

half of the Small Projects Fund ($250,000 yearly) on good rural projects.
