Welcome to this List Serv sponsored by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Rural Funding Coordination Project.  These messages provide information about current government and private grants, conference and training opportunities, publications, and potential funding sources, with an emphasis on rural Alaska.

 

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority’s Small Projects Funding program is designed to create innovative new program ideas, substantially improve and supplement existing activities, or significantly increase the quality of ongoing projects.  Each small project is limited to a maximum of $10,000.  The deadlines are February 1, June 1 and October 1.  For more information, call 907-269-7960 or visit www.mhtrust.org.

 

The State Division of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has funds available for eligible expenses limited to dental, vision, hearing, educational services, and specialized medical services or equipment that facilitate the improvement of a Mental Health Trust beneficiary’s quality of life and/or independent functioning.  These fund are only to purchase services that are not otherwise available for Mental Health Trust beneficiaries.  Substance abuse programs who are currently ADA grantees are invited to submit applications for these funds for consumers who have been determined to be a Trust beneficiary by an approved substance abuse program.  The deadline is June 1.  For more information, contact Lilli Walsh at 907-465-2185 or visit www.hss.state.ak.us.

 

The State Department of Health and Social Services is soliciting letters of interest for its Micro Enterprise Capital Grant program.  The goal of the program is to provide applicants with the means to administer funds to eligible Mental Health Trust beneficiaries interested in starting their own small business and achieving self-employment.  The funds can be used for start-up equipment, working capital, machinery, furnishings, and other fixed assets.  Grants will be limited to $10,000 per individual with a minimum award of $1,000.  Applicants must match requested funds with a dollar-to-dollar match.  The deadline is May 21.  For more information, contact Jennifer Klein at 907-465-1871 or visit www.hss.state.ak.us.

 

The Alaska Commission on Aging is soliciting proposals for its Elders with Co-Occurring Disorders program.  The goal of the program is to provide services for elders with co-occuring mental health and substance abuse disorders.  The deadline is May 23.  For more information, contact Paula Recchia at 907-465-4793 or visit www.alaskaaging.org/mhtaar.html.

 

The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention is accepting applications for cooperative agreements to conduct targeted capacity expansion of methamphetamine and inhalant prevention interventions and/or infrastructure development.  Approximately 14 awards ranging from $300,000 to $350,000 in total costs will be available.  The deadline is May 23.  For more information, contact Pamela Roddy at 301-443-1001 or visit www.samhsa.gov.

 

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting on-line applications for its Resources for Recovery: State Practices that Expand Treatment Opportunities program.  The program is designed to encourage states to identify, support and implement strategies that expand treatment capacity and/or the populations eligible for alcohol and other drug treatment services through more effective use of existing state expenditures.
