In the Senate - 74 cosponsors want WIIA. THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS Senate Majority Leader Lott will not schedule the bill for vote, even with a filibuster proof 74% of the Senate wanting passage of WIIA. ACTION NEEDED Contact your Senators and 1. Ask them to request that the Work Incentive Improvement Act be brought to the full Senate floor for a vote during any of their speeches on the Senate floor. 2. Ask them to contact Senate Majority Lott and request that WIIA be brought to the full Senate for a vote. HOUSE WIIA UPDATE AND PLAN The full Commerce Committee is the next House markup (offer amendments) for WIIA, H.R. 1180. THE GOOD NEWS In the House -- NCIL's new efforts are working. House staff reported today that there are 111 House cosponsors to H.R. 1180. Congratulations, advocates! THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS There is not a balanced bi-partisan House Cosponsorship for H.R. 1180 - 79 Democrats and 32 Republican cosponsors. (check www.thomas.loc.gov H.R. 1180 update for most recent cosponsor list.) IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED - CONTACT HOUSE REPUBLICANS AND ASK THEM TO BECOME COSPONSORS OF H.R. 1180. It is also a NCIL priority that NCIL members urge all advocates to contact House Commerce Committee members and: 1. Either thank them for being cosponsors (see attached) or urge them to become cosponsor of H.R. 1180. 2. Urge all to vote down any weakening markup amendments to the Medicaid provisions - this committee's jurisdiction. US HOUSE COMMERCE COMMITTEE Republicans W.J. "Billy" Tauzin, LA Michael G.
