Minutes from June 4, 2000

The teleconference meeting was called to order by Don Roberts, an Interim Director, at 9 pm, June 4, 2000.

In attendance were the three Interim Directors of AKADMI:

Don Roberts

Esther Hopkins

Jean Steele

The first order of business was the election of Interim Director officers:

Jean Steele nominated Don Roberts for interim President, seconded by Esther Hopkins. Don was elected by a unanimous vote.

Jean Steele nominated Esther Hopkins for interim Treasurer, seconded by

Don Roberts. Esther was elected by a unanimous vote.

Esther Hopkins nominated Jean Steele to be interim Secretary, seconded by Don Roberts. Jean was elected by a unanimous vote.

Second item of business was a discussion concerning the need to bring more directors onto the AKADMI board. Esther Hopkins moved to invite the following list of people to apply for positions on the AKADMI Board of Directors. Jean Steele seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. Letters of invitation will be mailed to:

Terry Boroughs

Will Hostman

Beth Lacrosse

Pattie Ogino

Marilyn Reeves

Esther Hopkins reported that the application for non-profit status has been sent to the Commission of Banking and Corporations and that when the paperwork returns AKADMI will file the Articles of Incorporation and By-laws.

Jean Steele recommended that the Interim Board keep track of in-kind hours and all monies spent from our own resources, including teleconference bills, filing charges for non-profit status, etc.

Don Roberts reported that the law, which had banned people with mental illness from voting, was repealed in 1992. There is currently a bill under consideration that specifically addresses the liabilities of the directors of non-profit corporations.

It was moved by Jean Steele and seconded by Esther Hopkins that the AKADMI Board makes the following resolution. Motion passed unanimously.

Resolution: The Interim Board of Directors will publish the approved minutes of this meeting to the following people and organizations:

Pat Murphy, President

Walter Majoros, Executive Director

The Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities

Leonard Abel, Grants Administrator

Yvonne Jacobson, Consumer Affairs

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority

Caren Robinson, Chair

Jeff Jessee, Executive Director

Mary Elizabeth Rider, Trust Planner

A motion was made by Jean Steele and seconded by Esther Hopkins to submit the approved minutes to Mental Health Consumer’s Web for publication on the web, and to post them on the AKADMI Club page on Yahoo.com.

Esther Hopkins announced that AKADMI has a web page that is “under construction.”

The Interim Board decided to set a public meeting in July to interview the Board applicants.

The next meeting of the Interim Board will be via teleconference on June 25, 2000, at 8 pm.

Jean Steele moved to adjourn the meeting.
